MONTERU

Special Cask Brandy

Triple Toast & Rare Cask Finish

Pot Still Brandy

Triple Toast

Small Batch of 195 Cases

Distilled in 2012 & Bottled: 2016

41.3% Alc/Vol

Description:

The Triple Burnt Special Cask Finish is the result of a specific process which consists in scraping out and toasting the inside of secondhand red wine casks. These American oak casks are charred three times: once lightly and twice heavily with a blowtorch. We love the typical vanilla and strong caramel notes which the burnt wood brings to our Monteru Brandy.

THE AGING

Aged in carefully selected French oak and finished in Triple Burnt American casks with a capacity of 225 liters.

TASTING NOTES:

The magnificent limpid caramel color is a hint to the richness of this special finish brandy.

The nose tells tales of a bakery where hot cakes have just come out of the oven, complex with aromas of dried fig, walnut, menthol and a hint of cocoa powder.

The mouth is very expressive with typical Bourbon aromas such as smooth caramel and smoky vanilla. The palate boasts notes of raisins, walnut and a herbal touch, reminiscent of traditional vermouth.

The long-lasting finish reveals accents of toasted almonds and dried herbs.

Taste profile: pleasantly dry, walnuts and herbs.

The fine grain French oak conveys great aromas and flavors to our Monteru Rare Cask Finish Brandy, and the ex-Sauternes casks more stone fruits like aromas.

TASTING NOTES

This Brandy, which is packed with apricots, boasts an elegant pale yellow color. At first, the nose reveals notes of honey and yellow flowers, followed by comforting aromas of freshly toasted bread and apricots.

The mouth is delicate and silky, revealing flavors of dried tropical fruit.

The finish reveals subtle notes of nuts, dried fruit and baked apricot tart.

Taste profile: nutty and spicy.

Pot Still Brandy

Japanese Mizunara

Oak Cask Finish

Bottle One of One (1 bottle released)

Distilled in 2012 (10%) & 2014 (90%)

100% Folle Blanche Grape Varietal

Bottled in June 2017

43% Alc/Vol

Description

Monteru Brandy Ippon is is the third non-Japanese whisky and the first-ever French spirit to be aged exclusively in a new Japanese mizunara oak hand-crafted in Japan. Why is it named Ippon?

Ippon means 'one piece' and 'a perfect full point' as this is the highest score a fighter can achieve in judo, a Japanese martial art which is highly regarded sport in France.

The Monteru Ippon brandies are available in a exclusive crystal bottle hand made in France by Lalique just for the Monteru Ippon limited edition. The Monteru Ippon One of One comes with a wood stand purchased from an antique store which was originally used to hold collector vases from Japan.

THE AGING

The brandy is made from folle blanche grape varietal, 90% from 2014 and 10% from 2012, with an ABV of 43%. The brandy was initially matured in new and used French Limousine oak casks before being then transferred to a virgin Mizunara oak cask for about 12 months.

TASTING NOTES

The color is a bright golden yellow and the nose is fresh and vibrant as expected from the folle blanche varietal. The initial aroma is sort of a resinous eucalyptus honey mix. On the palate there are elegant aromas of spices especially cinnamon spices with a hint of clove hiding within, and a creamy finish. This brandy is surprising, as it is showing a non-traditional tasting profile for brandy. It 's something else!

Taste profile: botanical and creamy.

THE AGING

Aged in carefully selected French oak barrels (225 liters) and finished in Sherry casks (550 liters).
